Getting Our DIY On

Last weekend, Don and I decided to start a few DIY projects. He recently came across the very cool website, Ana White, which has plans for making just about any piece of furniture you could possibly imagine. Well, we need furniture and money doesn't grow on trees so we decided to give it a try. Our first attempt at woodworking was to build a console table for the living room.

We headed to Lowe's to pick up a few items. We spent under $100 for this project, and that included a new jigsaw.

Admittedly, Don did a huge majority of the work on this project while I was grocery shopping.

The table came together easily, and we learned a thing or two as we went (i.e. don't buy the cheapest wood...it's cheap for a reason!).

Then we stained and polyed it (can I use that as a verb?) to match the other tables in the living room.

The finished product! I think it turned out beautifully for our first project!

We had some leftover wood so Don decided to make a shotglass cabinet since our shotglass collection has seriously outgrown our current cabinet. He followed the specifications of the cabinet we already have...

and voila...another cabinet (looks like we need to build a third already!)!

We had a lot of fun building these, and the plans on the website are SO easy to follow (plus there are some really cool things on there)! Don has already begun our next project. Here's a hint...it's a LOT bigger! I'll post about it once it's done. Happy DIYing!
